Finding America’s Next Top Designers In Cincinnati

The College of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning opened its doors last week to celebrate the work of its graduating seniors. The annual DAAPWorks event presents senior theses from over 400 students from the college. While some of these students will seek design jobs on the East and West coasts, many graduates are finding the opportunities here too good to pass up.

Cincinnati Gets Fashionable

Milan, Paris, New York, and now Cincinnati has its own Fashion Week. The week-long event this April is the brainchild of Cincinnati State student, Nathan Hurst. The sometime-freelance designer turned entrepreneur has assembled a team of local volunteers, built important sponsorships, and attracted designers from all over the country (and the globe) for this first of its kind event in Cincinnati.

The Bright Side

Nestled at the northern tip of the west end lies then relatively unknown Cincinnati neighborhood of Brighton. Quiet rows of 19th century italianate architecture might look vacant, but renters, homeowners, retailers, and artists are beginning to quietly shine a little light in the area, including The Brush Factory, a collective headed up by Rosie Kovacs that is home to clothing designers and artists.
