CincyBio 2009 brings innovation to town

At CincyBio 2009 scientific advances meet the laws that govern them in a thought-provoking one day conference. Billed as “The Bioscience Event for Innovators and Intellectual Property Professionals,” CincyBio 2009 will be 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at  Kingsgate Marriott Conference Hotel at the University of Cincinnati. CincyBio 2008 seeks to expose students, lawyers, and industry professionals to the latest biotech innovations and their legal implications. Speakers represent a cross-section of companies and institutions from around town and across the globe, including Procter and Gamble, BioOhio, Children’s Hospital, UC, Bexion, and Ethicon Endo-Surgery. Academia and industry will share the stage at CincyBio; panelists will discuss collaborations among universities and companies. Harry J. Guttman, a patent attorney for Stipkala LLC, heads up the conference’s steering committee. Attendees can attend panel discussions on pharmaceuticals and biomedical devices. Sam Han, a University of Dayton professor, will speak on policy issues surrounding patenting of the breast cancer gene. Participants will gain local and global perspective. In a lunchtime keynote, John F. Lewis, Jr. of BioOhio will present on the state of Ohio’s life science industry. Cyra Nargolwalla, a partner at Cabinet Plasseraud in Paris, will close the conference with a presentation on biotech patenting in Europe. CincyBio 2009 is co-hosted by University of Cincinnati, Children’s Hospital, CincyIP (Cincinnati Intellectual Property Law Association), Cincinnati Chapter of the Licensing Executive Society, and BIOSTART.
