ReUse-apalooza features fun, raises funds for Building Value

Bluegrass music. Jugglers. Steppers. Drinks. Chess.The activities at Building Value’s upcoming ReUse-apolooza will be as varied as the items for sale at the salvaged building material non-profit.  Each year the organization diverts more than 2,000 tons of building materials from landfills.Building Value will hold its first ReUsa-apalooza fundraiser, 7 p.m. – 10:30 p.m., Jan. 22, in their retail shop located at 4040 Spring Grove Ave. in Northside. The non-profit moved to Northside from a space on Gilbert Avenue last fall.”This is a way to raise awareness about our new location,” in addition to fundraising, said organization spokeswoman Lisa Doxsee.The Comet Bluegrass All-Stars, Du Bois Steppers, Drums for Peace and others will perform at the fundraiser. There will also be an ongoing chess match, hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer and soft drinks and raffles.”It’s a very eclectic event with all kinds of things happening, all night. There will be a different performance artist every hour,” Doxsee. “It’s really a mix-and-mingle event.”You can buy discount tickets online before Jan. 20 for $15 a person or $25 a couple and come with one free drink ticket.  Tickets at the door are $25 per person or $35 per couple. The retail store will be open during the event, and you can purchase building items that Northside artist Paul Lashua will use to create a large outdoor sculpture for Building Value. Building Value was founded in 2004 by Easter Seals Work Resource Center as a way to further its mission: “empowering people with disabilities and disadvantages to increase their independence through work.” The ultimate goal for workers is to get trained for jobs with Cincinnati employers.
