University of Cincinnati wins $54,000 incentive award for tech transfer

University of Cincinnati’s technology transfer program was just awarded $54,000 from the Ohio Board of Regents after being ranked fourth out of 16 institutions in the state in technology commercialization.

Taking technology developed in its research labs and making it viable for commercial use is the aim of the University of Cincinnati’s technology transfer program. The program was just awarded $54,000 from the Ohio Board of Regents after being ranked fourth out of 16 institutions in the state in technology commercialization. The state’s $500,000 Technology Commercialization Incentive Program scores universities on entrepreneurial start-ups, productive licensing deals with Ohio businesses and industry-financed research expenditures. “It’s significant that we ranked quite well within the state for technology transfer initiatives,” says Sandra Degen, UC’s VP for research. In 2007, UC brought in $582,000 in royalty income and had 111 invention disclosures, 56 patent applications, 13 patents issued and one start-up company. The money will support UC’s intellectual property office.
