February is the shortest month of the year, but it’s had a lot to offer. We invited you to close the month out with some exciting events this week. Spend your Fat Tuesday with The 18th Annual Mardi Gras for Homeless Children fundraiser at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center. Frost/Nixon also takes to the stage Tuesday evening at the Aronoff Center. Music Hall is coming down with a touch of the Blues Friday evening as a world-class barrage of Blues entertainers take the stage as part of the Cincinnati Blues Festival. And the project-based art gallery Country Club, has two exhibits on display for art lovers to enjoy; see Spit & Peanut Shells – American Pictures and Art Thing & the Orgllycreeks & Common Surprise.

Party for a Cause

Going beyond the colorful beads and the big heads, The 18th Annual Mardi Gras for Homeless Children, is all about giving back. Join the Northern Kentucky Restaurant Association (NKRA) in cooperation with the Greater Cincinnati Restaurant Association (GCRA) at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center for an evening of which benefits four shelters: Bethany House Services, Cincinnati; Brighton Center’s Homeward Bound, Covington; Mercy Franciscan at St. John, Cincinnati; and Welcome House of Northern Kentucky, Inc., Covington. The Mardi Gras celebration includes a variety of food and beverages from local restaurants and beverage suppliers, live entertainment with the Pete Wagner Band, an Elvis impersonator, stilt walkers, clowns, and a fabulous silent auction featuring more than 400 items. Plus what would Mardi Gras be without a parade? Grand Marshal Anthony Munoz leads the parade which includes this year’s Mardi Gras King, 700 WLW’s Mike McConnell along with Mardi Gras Queen, Kit Andrews from Channel 12. Come be a part of the celebration and help reach this year’s goal of raising $100,000 for the area’s homeless children.
Face-off of the Century

Before it was a big screen hit in Hollywood, the high-pressured film Frost/Nixon was an award-winning Broadway play. Screenplay writer Peter Morgan and his all new cast are bringing the scandal back to the stages. Catch Frost/Nixon at the Aronoff Center for the Arts– show begins this Tuesday-during its limited two week engagement as part of the Broadway Across America tour. See Tricky Dick try and outwit the savvy British TV talk- show host, David Frost, who is determined to score a confession out of the former president. Tony nominee Stacey Keach plays the crooked Nixon, and celebrated British actor Alan Cox takes on the role of David Frost. This is one face-off you don’t want to miss. Click here for tickets.

Feeling blue? Well if you’re not, you need to start! A world-class line-up of blues entertainers is bringing down the house this Friday night at Music Hall. The Cincinnati Blues Festival will feature the energized music of Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Bobby “Blue” Bland, Alabama blue boy Clarence Carter, Tennessean Latimore, the Chicago Blues Society’s 1998 Entertainer of the Year Floyd Taylor, International sensation Bobby Rush, Shirley Brown, an artist who’s earned comparison to Aretha Franklin and Theodis Ealey, composer of six critically acclaimed Blues albums. What’s better than one awesome art exhibit? Two awesome art exhibits. Country Club– a project-based commercial gallery-is holding receptions this Saturday, starting at 4 p.m., for two brand-new exhibits that are to occupy the gallery’s 4,000 square feet until May 16. First is Cheryl Dunn’s Spit & Peanut Shells – American Pictures. This exhibit showcases street photography, video and objects documented during Dunn’s travels within the U.S. Then there’s exhibit #2, Art Thing & the Orgllycreeks & Common Surprise by Antonio Adams. His exhibit features the artist’s superheroes, celebrities, newsmakers and portraiture. Be sure to pop into both exhibits while you’re there.
