Sarah Whitman joins Soapbox as Managing Editor

Since joining the Soapbox team as Managing Editor last month, my eyes have been opened to a whole world of talent, innovation, development and entrepreneurialism right in my back yard. I’ve lived and worked in Cincinnati for 16 years, but the last six weeks have been a crash course on a city with projects, services, products, plans and dreams whose breadth and depth are greater than anything I could have imagined. Being privy to the full scope of what’s burgeoning and brewing not just downtown, but throughout the entire tri-state region, is awe-inspiring. My biggest fear when accepting the Managing Editor position—that I would struggle to find 15 great story ideas each and every week—has been laid to rest ten-fold. I hope you agree.

I spent most of the past 16 years as an editor with HOW magazine, a national print publication for graphic-design professionals, and most recently with HOW’s sister publication, Print. During my tenure with those publications, I learned two key things, both of which I hope will be assets in my new role: how to manage a top-caliber publication, and the importance design and branding play in every project, product or initiative. With this knowledge, I hope to bring you high-quality articles that focus on the incredibly talented people who are making a positive impact in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

Cincinnati Design Week, coming up September 30 through October 5, is the perfect marriage of my past and present, and I'm eager to bring you coverage of the event over the next few weeks. I'm especially excited about SpringBoard's speed dating event at The Brandery called Meet Your Match, which hooks entrepreneurs up with local designers to exchange services.

I welcome your feedback and ideas, and hope you’ll reach out through e-mail, Facebook and Twitter. Thank you for your loyal readership and for entrusting me with this publication that hopes to capture the heart of the city we all love.

Until next Tuesday,

Sarah Whitman
